The Accounting Placement Assessment is designed to help determine which WASBO accounting course is the best starting point for you based on your current accounting knowledge, experience, and comfort level.
The assessment includes 12 questions covering foundational accounting concepts, including debits and credits, account types, the accounting equation, balance sheet accounts, T-accounts, journal entries, and fund balance.
How Placement Works
Questions are weighted based on demonstrated accounting knowledge and your reported level of comfort and experience. After you complete the assessment, the system will use your overall score to recommend the appropriate learning path:
- Score of 11 or higher: School Accounting 1
- Score below 11: Introduction to School Accounting
This is a placement assessment, not a pass/fail test. The goal is to help ensure you begin with the course that best matches your current level of accounting knowledge and provides the foundation you need to be successful.
Before You Begin
Please keep the following in mind:
- The assessment contains 12 questions.
- You will have one attempt to complete the assessment.
- There is no time limit, so take your time and carefully consider each question.
- Some questions ask you to rate your own accounting knowledge or comfort level. Please answer these questions as accurately as possible so your course recommendation reflects your current experience.
- Completion of this assessment does not earn clock hours or other continuing education credit.
Course Access
Completion of the Accounting Placement Assessment is required before registering for School Accounting 1. Participants who meet the placement threshold will be recommended for School Accounting 1 and will be able to proceed with registration.
Introduction to School Accounting does not require completion of this assessment. Anyone who would like additional foundational accounting instruction may register for Introduction to School Accounting without taking the assessment.
