Pdf Summary
This course teaches the fundamentals and core features of Microsoft Project 2016 for planning, scheduling, and tracking projects. Learners start by getting comfortable with the Project interface, including the main screen, Quick Access Toolbar customization, and using Help. They learn how to create new projects (blank or from templates), open and save files, set project information, define working days and hours, manage calendars, and print views or reports.

Next, the course covers essential project views and navigation tools. Participants work with task and resource views (Task Sheet, Resource Sheet, Resource Usage), use the Timeline, and configure split views. They also practice organizing and analyzing project data by sorting and filtering tasks/resources, applying AutoFilters, and using zoom controls and timescales to focus on selected tasks or the full project.

The tasks module explains how to build a schedule using manually and automatically scheduled tasks, create milestones, link tasks (single or multiple) while respecting dependencies, and organize work with summary tasks and deadlines. It also covers task details and editing actions such as inserting, deleting, copying, renaming, and moving tasks. Learners apply advanced scheduling techniques including lag and lead time, deadlines and constraints, task types, task calendars, and splitting tasks.

Resource management topics include adding and managing work, material, and cost resources; setting availability and vacation time; adding notes; assigning resources to tasks; delaying resource starts; and using effort-driven scheduling. The course also addresses grouping resources and resolving overallocation by adjusting units or replacing resources.

Finally, participants learn project cost and progress control: fixed costs, resource rates (including overtime and unique pay rates), baselines, updating actuals and completion, reviewing project statistics and variances, and rescheduling work. Reporting lessons cover creating and editing dashboard, resource, cost, and in-progress reports, plus exporting reports to PDF and other formats.
